Acolad will support Jane O’Callaghan on her 34km (21 mi) crossing of the English Channel, directly contributing to the fundraising started by O’Callaghan for UK-based charity, ASPIRE.

 August 24, 2023

Acolad, a global leader in content and language solutions, will be sponsoring its employee, Jane O’Callaghan, as she embarks on a remarkable journey to complete the 34 km (21 mi) crossing of the English Channel. From Dover, England to Cap Gris Nez in France, the swim is expected to take an average of 11 to 18 hours to complete.

The sporting challenge – expected to take place this August 29 – brings O’Callaghan and 5 other swimmers together intending to raise funds for the UK-based Charity, ASPIRE, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with spinal cord injuries.

The challenge is part of ASPIRE’s project – the ASPIRE Channel Swim -, in which an average of 6,000 swimmers participates each year and which this year is set to raise over £550,000 for the association.

To Jane, this charity stands very close to heart as someone very close to her had a tragic accident leaving them tetraplegic, which changed both of their lives. The long-term athlete and sports fan, who played for British female rugby teams in the 90s – and is currently taking part in several triathlon and ironman competitions across Europe -, took it upon herself to raise awareness towards spinal cord injury.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be able to give back this way.” – said O’Callaghan. “ASPIRE does tremendous work with those suffering from this injury and helps put smiles back on their faces – so I felt I had to do my part. And I’m so grateful that Acolad is standing with me on this.”

As Aspire sponsors the fee of participation and the cost of the boat, the pilot and the official observer, Jane and one of her teammates have set themselves a target to raise a total of £ 5000 for the charity.

Acolad proudly stands behind Jane and has thus committed to cover training-related expenses and help her reach her fundraiser by topping up the remaining funds that Jane has committed to raising (£ 2500 in total), so Jane can already deliver on her commitment this way and allow her to focus more on training for the impending crossing.

The company’s sponsorship underscores its commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, aligning with its broader mission of making a positive impact in the world.

“At Acolad we believe in driving positive change and making a significant community impact, that’s why we are fully committed to social action and actively support our employees and their endeavors. We are strong advocates for our people – their causes are our own – and it is great to see that we not only have great talent among us but also, and most importantly, great people – with a giving mind and heart.” – stated Hayley Kreiger, General Manager UK at Acolad.

“Jane’s undertaking is one of those cases where our endorsement as a company can help make a difference: through our support, we hope to amplify her efforts in making a real difference in the lives of those suffering with spinal cord injury.” – the senior executive added.
